The director of cricket at the National Cricket Academy, VVS Laxman, is likely to be India's coach for the two-match T20I series against Ireland in June, according to media reports.
Laxman will be filling in for Rahul Dravid given the latter would be with India's Test squad for the rescheduled fifth Test from last year and the limited-over series against England.
India's selection committee is likely to announce a separate squad for the South Africa home series and Ireland T20s on May 22.
Meanwhile, the Indian Test squad is likely to leave for England on June 15.
Last year, the same type of arrangement was made, when Shikhar Dhawan led the Indian side for the limited-overs series against Sri Lanka with Rahul Dravid as a coach, while Virat Kohli-led side was in England for the ICC World Test Championship final with Ravi Shastri as head coach.
