Rohit Sharma, an iconic figure in Indian Premier League (IPL) history, has transitioned into a new role with the Mumbai Indians this season, primarily serving as an Impact Substitute.

Just two seasons ago, Rohit helmed the team as captain, but the franchise has since placed Hardik Pandya in that leadership position. Suryakumar Yadav has been assigned the vice-captaincy, relieving Rohit of any leadership duties.

Speaking with the broadcasters, Rohit shared insights into the evolution of his role over the years.

Mumbai Indians have had a challenging start to the current season, securing only one victory in their first three matches.

Such slow beginnings are not unfamiliar to the team, which has a reputation for bouncing back robustly. Despite changes in his role, Rohit's commitment to his team remains unwavering.

"From my early days, things have quite clearly evolved. I transitioned from batting in the middle order to opening the innings. I moved from being the captain to not having any leadership role.

Many of my previous teammates from our championship runs have stepped into coaching. While roles have shifted significantly, my mindset hasn't wavered.

My objective for the team persists- winning matches and clinching trophies, hallmarks of the Mumbai Indians legacy.

We have consistently turned games around from seemingly impossible situations. That resilience defines MI and the spirit of Mumbai," Rohit commented on JioHotstar.

Rohit also addressed the team’s new recruits as the franchise seeks to reclaim the coveted trophy. As he acquaints himself with both veterans and newcomers, his mission remains to lead the team to success once again.

"Reacquiring players like Trent Boult, who is well-versed in MI's culture, brings invaluable experience. Then we have Mitchell Santner, New Zealand's captain, who adds both depth and skill.

With players like Will Jacks and Reece Topley, our team dynamic diversifies, while Ryan Rickelton is a promising youthful talent. Each player contributes unique strengths, collectively enhancing our team's impact.

Additionally, our young Indian talents hold tremendous potential, and playing alongside them is something I eagerly anticipate. My immediate aim is to secure the TATA IPL trophy and restore the glory to Mumbai Indians," Rohit stated.

The seasoned cricketer remains focused on his primary goal: steering the Mumbai Indians to success in the 2023 IPL campaign.
