Former Pakistani pacer Shoaib Akhtar questioned Babar Azam’s batting and leadership skills after the Asia Cup debacle. Despite leading his team to the final of the tournament, his captaincy in important matches came under scrutiny.
The ‘Rawalpindi Express’ said on his YouTube channel that the Pakistan captain was not cut out for the shortest format and that he only tried to look good while playing the shots.
“He is looking for classic drives to rediscover his touch instead of trying to play close to the body. He just wants to look classic. What kind of method is this to find form?” Akhtar questioned.
As Pakistan failed to win the Asia Cup, the skipper was heavily criticised for his decision-making and his performances in crucial games as he scored just 68 runs in six innings at a strike rate of only 107.93, which included just three double-figure scores and a duck.
