South African pacer Gerald Coetzee was ruled out of the second and final Test versus India on December 30, ESPN Cricinfo reported.
Coetzee reportedly developed a pelvic inflammation during the first Test at Centurion and as per Cricinfo, his discomfort got worse progressively throughout the match.
Quoting a Cricket South Africa press release, Cricinfo revealed that Coetzee's scans on December 29 provided a clear update on the extent of his injury.
The cricket board is yet to announce his replacement.
During India's second innings, Coetzee could bowl only five overs before he returned to the dugout.
As per Cricinfo, the Proteas' head coach released the 24-year-old from the squad as a 'precautionary measure'.
Coetzee is the second player after skipper Temba Bavuma to be injured in the ongoing Test series against India.
