Steve Smith will lead Australia in the 3-match ODI series in India as Pat Cummins has decided to stay home after his mother passed away, coach Andrew McDonald confirmed on Tuesday.

He had returned to Australia after the 2nd Test vs India and Smith was appointed as the skipper for the last two Tests. Under him, the Aussies bounced back to win in Indore and then draw the Ahmedabad Test.

McDonald also revealed that David Warner, who missed the last 2 Tests after sustaining a hairline fracture in his left elbow, has resumed training in Ahmedabad.
