Team management's decision to open the innings with Suryakumar Yadav in the T20 series vs the West Indies may have raised a few eyebrows but after a couple of low scores, the prolific batter owned the opening slot in the 3rd T20I.
He was rewarded for a consistent show in the shortest format, which saw him smash a hundred vs England in July, as Surya jumped 3 places to attain a career-best T20I ranking of number 2 in the newly released ICC T20I rankings for batters.
Babar Azam though continues to be at the top spot but if things go well, Suryakumar Yadav will dethrone the Pakistan skipper by the end of the series vs the Windies. India still has 2 more T20I to play before the Asia Cup while Pakistan doesn't play any Twenty Twenty games before that. With Babar just 2 points ahead of Surya on the table, things might change very quickly.
