Mumbai Indians have been receiving a lot of backlash ever since they removed Rohit Sharma as skipper and appointed Hardik Pandya as the new captain for IPL 2024.
It seems that not just fans but Suryakumar Yadav was also not happy with the decision. The 33-year-old, who plays for MI, posted a cryptic Instagram story after the announcement.
Sky started his IPL career with the Mumbai Indians in 2011 but was bought by the Kolkata Knight Riders in 2014. However, MI brought him back home in 2018 and since then he has been one of the pillars for Mumbai.
Surya was also handed over Team India T20I captaincy after the Cricket World Cup. Under him, India defeated Australia 4-1 at home and then went on to draw the 3-match T20I series 1-1 in South Africa.
Hardik Pandya on the other hand, left MI ahead of IPL 2022 and was picked by the Gujarat Titans ahead of the mega auction. GT won the IPL title in its very first season under Hardik and also went on to play the final in 2023.
However, MI traded back Hardik in an all-cash deal ahead of IPL 2024 auction and have now put their trust in him to lead the team going forward.
As for Rohit, he opted to not play white-ball cricket for a while after India lost the Cricket World Cup final in November.
Under him, MI won 5 IPL titles and become one of the most destructive teams in the competition.
