Unmukt Chand’s journey in cricket reads like a tale of promise intertwined with heartbreak. From his early days as a prodigious talent lighting up youth tournaments to leading India to glory in the Under-19 World Cup, Unmukt's story is one of soaring highs and crushing lows.

Born on March 26, 1993, in New Delhi, he quickly rose through the ranks, showcasing remarkable talent and determination.

His early years with the Delhi U-19 team were nothing short of spectacular; he amassed 499 runs in his debut season, including two centuries and a half-century. This success paved the way for a bright future, and by the time he entered the 2010-11 Ranji Trophy, he had already established himself as one of India's most promising young cricketers.

In 2011, Unmukt made his Indian Premier League debut for the Delhi Daredevils, but his performances fell short of expectations. In his first two seasons, he scored a mere 38 runs across four innings. However, this setback did little to deter his domestic success.

He captained the India U-19 team during a quadrangular series in Vishakhapatnam, where he shone brightly, scoring an unbeaten 122 against Sri Lanka and two fifties against Australia and the West Indies. His tally of 336 runs in seven matches underscored his capabilities as a leader and a player.

The pinnacle of Unmukt’s early career came in 2012 when he led the Indian U-19 team to victory in the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup in Australia. Chasing 226 runs, Chand's unbeaten 111 off 130 balls guided his team to a historic win, solidifying his status as a future star.

Despite this monumental achievement, his subsequent career in Indian cricket failed to take off as expected.  Over six IPL seasons with various teams, he could only accumulate 300 runs in 21 games.

By 2017, as opportunities dwindled, Unmukt Chand found himself struggling to secure a place in the Delhi team, even after leading India A squads.

In the 2019-20 Ranji Trophy season, playing for Uttarakhand, he managed just 195 runs in 7 matches. Faced with a stark future, Chand pivoted his career and made the heart-wrenching decision in 2021; to retire from all forms of Indian cricket at just 28.

He sought new horizons in the United States, signing with Major League Cricket. His debut in Minor League Cricket saw him top the run charts with 612 runs from 16 innings, leading the Silicon Valley Strikers to a championship title. His ambition didn’t stop there; he made history as the first Indian male cricketer to play in Australia’s Big Bash League and later joined the Chattogram Challengers in the Bangladesh Premier League.

Despite his achievements in international leagues, Unmukt's aspirations to represent the USA in the T20 World Cup 2024 faced yet another disappointment when he was left out of the final squad. Yet, he remains undeterred, continuing to showcase his talent in various leagues around the world.

Unmukt Chand’s story is a reminder of the unpredictability of sports. It illustrates how talent alone is not always enough; sometimes, fate plays a cruel game. Yet, with his spirit undaunted, Unmukt Chand is not just a forgotten hero of Indian cricket but an embodiment of resilience and hope, inspiring others to chase their dreams, no matter the obstacles.
