Sunil Gavaskar had recently compared young India wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel to Mahendra Singh Dhoni. The 23-year Jurel won the Player of the Match award with a starring 90-run knock in the first innings as he helped India win the fourth Test with an unbeaten 39 in Ranchi.
In just his second Test match, Jurel scored the most runs for India with a 90-run knock, demonstrating amazing character and match understanding. Gavaskar made a comparison between Jurel and Dhoni when the latter was combining aggression and caution with the lower order.
Gavaskar clarified his statement on Sports Tak, saying that Jurel's assessment of the scenario during the match gave him the "Dhoni feels."
Clarifying the same, the India batting great said that while there cannot be another Dhoni, Jurel could have a bright future in the game.
"No one can become MS Dhoni. There is only one MS Dhoni. But if Jurel can manage to do even some portion of the things Dhoni did then it would be great for Indian cricket," Gavaskar said on Sports Tak, while praising the young wicket-keeper.
