Negotiating disciplined bowlers, Tilak Varma produced a well-calculated half-century, his first in T20Is, to become the 2nd youngest Indian to score a fifty in T20Is after Rohit Sharma.
While Rohit, who is also Varma's colleague at Mumbai Indians had notched up his first 50 when he was 20 years and 143 days old, the Hyderabad-born batter is 20 years and 271 days old currently as on August 6.
Fearless Varma who continued his good run in the shortest format, scored 51 off 41 balls to take a sinking India to 152/7 against West Indies in the second match.
On the back of his stunning performances in IPL in the last 2 years, the young batter who seems to be a promising prospect for Team India got a chance to make his debut for the national blue. While he made his IPL debut in 2022, with 393 runs in 14 games he emerged as the brightest spot in Mumbai Indians' dull performance.
This year too, Varma who was injured and missed 5 games, finished the 2022 edition as the 4th highest run-getter for the 5-time champions with 343 runs in 11 games at a strike rate of 164.11. And in just 2 games for the Men in Blue, he's already showing that he belongs at the top level.
