Indian colts started their ICC Under-19 World Cup campaign on a high as they defeated South Africa by 45 runs at the Guyana National Stadium on Saturday night.
Batting first, India lost their openers early but captain Yash Dhull and Shaik Rasheed's 71-run stand help up ththe innings. The Indian captain went on to score 82 runs before getting runout as the team were bundled out for 232-10 in the 47th over.
Chasing a below-par 233 run target, South Africa too had a bad start as they lost their opener in the first over. However, a 58-run stand for the second wicket steadied their innings.
But it was in the middle-overs when they lost the match as South Africa got strangled by the Indian spinners. The runs came down to a trickle as Vicky Ostwal, Nishant Sindhu and Kaushal Tambe gave nothing away. From overs 12-31, Indian bowlers only gave 64 runs. All that pressure resulted in a mighty collapse as South Africa lost their last seven wickets for 49 with Vicky Ostwal taking five.
