Shaheen Afridi was appointed as Pakistan's T20I captain after their entire selection committee was revamped after the ODI World Cup 2023.
However, former skipper and Shaheen's father-in-law Shahid Afridi stated that the pacer became captain by mistake.
During a recent event attended by Mohammad Rizwan, Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf and Sarfaraz Ahmed, Afridi said, 'I admire Rizwan's hard work and focus level. His best quality, which I like most, is only focusing on his game and paying no heed to who doing what and what not. He is really a fighter!'
'I wanted to see him (Rizwan) as the T20 captain, but Shaheen became the skipper by mistake.' Afridi jokingly stated and left the players and the audience in splits.
Pakistan will travel to New Zealand for a 5-match T20I series starting January 12. It will be the first time Shaheen will lead the Men in Green.
