Outgoing East Delhi BJP MP Gautam Gambhir cast his vote in the national capital on May 25 during the sixth phase of the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.
Gambhir had announced his decision to not contest for a second time for the parliamentary seat, stating that he asked to be 'relieved of political duties' to focus on 'cricket'.
The 42-year-old is a cricketer-turned-politician and was part of the 2011 Cricket World Cup-winning squad.
Currently, Gambhir is the mentor of the IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders and is slated to join his team in Chennai ahead of the league final on Sunday.
Amid a widespread discussion about India's new head coach, Gambhir has emerged as frontrunner to succeed Rahul Dravid, with several reports claiming that he is BCCI's top choice.
