Bengal pacer Akash Deep rattled England batters on his debut in the 4th Test in Ranchi on February 23.
But there's more to the 27-year-old than his stellar bowling attack.
In a video released by the BCCI, head coach Rahul Dravid recalled Akash's perseverance enroute to the Indian dressing room.
Addressing the entire team, the former India skipper harked back to Akash's early days when he moved to Delhi all by himself, from a village near Ranchi to begin his cricketing journey.
'You played domestic cricket and put up impressive performances. Your journey has taken you to Ranchi, which is 200km closer to your village and you are going to get your India cap here today,' Dravid said.
Dravid went on to reveal the struggles Akash faced as he shifted bases from Delhi to Kolkata, going on to represent Bengal in domestic cricket.
Akash was presented the Test cap no. 313 by Dravid himself and was joined by his mother and sisters on the momentous occasion.
A few years ago, the speedster lost his father and elder brother within six months but it was Dravid who assured Akash that wherever they are, they would be showering their blessings on him.
