Uncapped Sameer Rizvi struck gold at the IPL auction after MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings bought him for 8.4 crores. Reflecting on his big break, the former under-19 player spoke about his auction triumph.
“I am very happy to have been selected in IPL… Being taken by CSK is like a dream come true since I’ve always idolised MS Dhoni,” the 20-year-old said.
“If I get to meet MS Dhoni, I don’t think I’ll be able to say anything, I'll fall short of words, but I’ll learn a lot and try my best to improve my game… I’m excited to wear the CSK jersey and learn from MS Dhoni,” he added.
Meerut boy Sameer Rizvi may not have been capped, but he has made his mark in India’s domestic cricket circuit. The right-handed batter has gained a reputation for hitting big shots in crunch situations, much like CSK skipper MS Dhoni,
Rizvi was among the top 10 six-hitters, with 18 maximums, striking at 139.89 in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy. He announced his arrival in the UP T20 League while playing for Kanpur Superstars.
Rizvi registered the highest individual score of 122 and scored the fastest century which came off 47 balls in the tournament.
