Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are often seen backing each other in press conferences but things were a little different a couple of years back.
There were rumours of a rift between the two Indian heavyweights and the BCCI had to step in to bring the two cricketers on the same page.
BCCI treasurer Arun Dhumal told veteran journalist Vimal Kumar on his YouTube channel that the whole idea of who is the better batter between the two has only stemmed from the public and through social media, and that the board does not differentiate between Kohli and Rohit.
'Fans speak their hearts out because there are no restrictions. That is why people think that a rift persists,' added Dhumal. He pointed out that they saw the same with Sunil Gavaskar and Kapil Dev, or later between Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar. 'On social media, matters amplify to an extent that people believe all this is true,' Dhumal further elaborated.
Virat Kohli is going through a lean patch and Rohit Sharma recently defended the former India captain not once but twice, saying that they don't drop Kohli as they have faith in his ability and that Virat is a great batter and does not need reassurance.
