The young Women in Blue thumped South Africa by 7 wickets to begin their campaign on a successful note in the inaugural Women's U-19 T20 World Cup.
After opting to bat first the South African women set a challenging target of 167 which India chased down with ease.
Shweta Sehrawat & Shafali Verma, the Indian opening pair provided a blazing start to India. The team achieved the target within 17 overs as the duo did most of the work with Sehrawat punching an impressive 92 not out and Shafali scoring a quickfire 16-ball 45 which included 9 fours and a six.
Earlier, the Indian captain, Verma also starred with the ball, picking up 2 wickets as South Africa scored 166/5 in the first innings. With 61 in 44 balls, Simone Lourens scored the maximum for the home team.
