Uncapped Indian batter Vrinda Dinesh proved to be the surprise pick of WPL Auction so far, fetching a price of ₹1.3 Crore. The 22-year-old opener from Karnataka, known for her impressive performances with the India A team against England A, will now don the colors of UP Warriorz in the upcoming WPL 2024.
Vrinda's cricketing journey has been marked by dedication and skill, evident in her idolization of Meg Lanning and active participation in trials conducted by all five WPL franchises during the off-season. Her standout performances earlier this year played a pivotal role in Karnataka's journey to the final of the Senior Women's one-day competition. Finishing as the third-highest run-getter, Vrinda amassed 477 runs in 11 innings at an impressive average of 47.70, including a notable 81 in the semi-final against Rajasthan.
Another significant acquisition in the second round of buys was South African pacer Shabnim Ismail, who joined the defending champions Mumbai Indians with a ₹1.2 Crore deal. The Royal Challengers Bangalore also strengthened their bowling lineup with the addition of Indian left-arm spinner Ekta Bisht, secured for ₹60 Lakh, and England pacer Kate Cross, who was acquired at her base price of ₹30 Lakh.
