With the World Test Championship Final just two days away, a question on everyone's mind is what are the provisions for a reserve day, in case of a rain delay or a drawn game at The Oval?
The Test between India and Australia will last for 5 days but as extra caution, especially considering English weather, the International Cricket Council has reserved a sixth day of play.
The reserve day will come into force, in case rain plays spoilsport. It can only be activated if weather interrupts match time. If the match simply ends in a draw, the game will not spill into the sixth day.
In whichever condition, on June 11th or on the reserve day, if the match ends in a draw, the ICC Test Mace will then be shared by the two teams.
In other ICC events, a team finishing with higher points gets the benefit, or a Super Over is played, however no such provisions have been made for the WTC Final.
Two years ago, the Final between India and New Zealand was delayed due to rain and play had resumed on the sixth day to decide the eventual winners.
