The first upset of the FIFA World Cup 2022 is here...
Lionel Messi's Argentina fell to a shock defeat in their FIFA World Cup 2022 Group C opener as Saudi Arabia beat the Albicelestes 2-1 at the Lusail Stadium in Qatar on Tuesday.
The defeat also brings an end to Argentina's 36-match unbeaten streak as they failed to match Italy's all-time record of 37 unbeaten games.
Argentina started off well and were able to break the deadlock in the 10th minute via a Lionel Messi penalty. The team looked set to register their record-equalling 37th consecutive unbeaten game. However, Saudi Arabia started the second half strongly and the first 10 minutes of the half saw them score 2 goals to take the lead against the heavyweights.
Argentina could not recover from there on despite getting numerous chances in the end. It was a memorable day for the Saudi Arabians and a shocking one for the Albicelestes who failed to get anything from the match.
