Arch-rivals Mohun Bagan Super Giant and East Bengal renewed their rivalry as they took on each other in the Super Cup to seal the semifinal spot. It was a Group A fixture of the Kalinga Super Cup and was played at the Kalinga Stadium Main Pitch in Bhubaneshwar.
Hector Yuste from Mohun Bagan SG scored the opening goal of the game in the 19th minute of the match as he netted the ball with a flick. But East Bengal came back strongly and equaled the score in the 24th minute as Cleiton Silva took a rocket of a shot out of nowhere to rattle the net.
No more goals were scored in the first half from there on and the teams went to their locker rooms with the score of 1-1.
The second half started with both teams taking the aggressive route and missed penalty chances to score during this course but it was Nandhakumar Sekar who provided the much-needed lead to East Bengal FC.
Cleiton Silva scored another goal for East Bengal in the 80th minute which was also his 2nd goal of the match and from there on things looked done and dusted for Mohun Bagan SG as East Bengal scored the victory by 3-1 to top the table from Group A of Kalinga Super Cup.
