Manchester United duo Cristiano Ronaldo and Harry Maguire received the most abuse on Twitter last season, a study by Ofcom and The Alan Turing Institute has revealed.
The report found out that hundreds of abusive tweets were sent to footballers around the clock with United players making up 8 of the 10 most targeted stars.
Seven in 10 Premier League footballers are subject to abuse on Twitter, with Ronaldo receiving the most hate, the study further revealed. CR7, Harry Maguire and Marcus Rashford received more than 20,000 abusive tweets between them.
Shockingly, one in 12 of these attacks targeted a player's race or another protected characteristic.
