Adidas' new Fussballliebe, the official ball for Euro 2024, will feature a cutting-edge microchip to assist referees in making accurate handball decisions.
This advanced microchip, capable of sending real-time ball data to video match officials, was previously used in the 2022 FIFA World Cup for semi-automated offside calls.
The ball, equipped with a rechargeable motion sensor, can detect up to 500 movements per second, ensuring precise recording of ball touches. The technology, in combination with limb-tracking systems, aims to improve decision-making in critical game moments, such as handball occurrences leading to a goal.
