Despite missing their main man Sadio Mane in the tournament, the African Champions Senegal have fought their way into the last 16 of the FIFA World Cup 2022 after a thrilling 2-1 win against Ecuador at the Khalifa International Stadium in Qatar, on Tuesday.
Senegal captain Koulibaly scored the winner in the 70th minute for the team after Ismaila Sarr had broken the deadlock with a 44th-minute penalty.
Despite having lesser ball possession in the game, Senegal made the most of their chances and defeated the South Americans who were expected to qualify for the last 16 after their draw against the Netherlands in the previous encounter.
The Lions of Teranga join the Netherlands from Group A to qualify for the knockout stages of the World Cup.
