Defending champions France are through to the quarter-finals of the FIFA World Cup 2022 as they beat Poland 3-1 in their last 16 encounter at the Al Thumama Stadium in Qatar, on Sunday.
Olivier Giroud created history for Les Bleus as his goal right on the cusp of half-time meant that the Frenchman is now the all-time leading goalscorer for France with 52 goals to his name.
It was none other than France's golden boy Mbappe who added the cherry on the cake with his brilliant brace to take his goal tally for the tournament to 5 goals and wrap up the win for Les Bleus in injury time. The 23-year-old is now the only player to have scored 9 World Cup goals before turning 24 overtaking Pele for the record.
France's relentless pressure throughout the game saw them through to the next round with Poland's consolation goal coming with the last kick of the ball via a Robert Lewandowski penalty.
