Despite being a tad bit better side, missed penalty cost England their chances at the World Cup yet again as defending champions France booked their semifinal berth emphatically with a 2-1 win at the Al Bayt stadium in the FIFA World Cup 2022.
Aurelien Tchouameni though gave the perfect start to Didier Deschamps' men in the 17th minute, Harry Kane cancelled it out in the 54th minute- this also brought him at par with Wayne Rooney's England scoring record of 53 goals from the spot.
However, his happiness could not last too long as the captain uncharacteristically missed a penalty after Olivier Giroud provided a 2-1 lead to the holders with a goal in the 78th-minute. Kane, considered to be the most reliable penalty taker of the team, blazed the second spot over the bar as Gareth Southgate's men failed to reach a 2nd successive World Cup semifinal.
With the 2-1 win France stayed on course to become the first team since Brazil in 1962 to win back-to-back World Cups. They will next face Morocco in the semi-final on 15th December.
