Defending champions France started their FIFA World Cup 2022 campaign in a style as they defeated Australia 4-1.
In a high-octane Group D encounter, Australia shocked the defending champions by taking a 1-0 in the 9th minute.

France, then, upped their ante and the equaliser came in the 27th minute. They didn't give the Aussies any chance to make a comeback thereafter.
Olivier Giroud netted a goal each before and after the break to take his tally to 51 goals, matching Thierry Henry's mark. He scored either side of a Kylian Mbappe goal.
With the win, France became the first defending champions to win their opening game in FIFA World Cup since 2006.
