Qatar FIFA World Cup 2022 : The stage is set for Qatar's glittering debut at the 2022 FIFA World Cup finals.
It's been 12 years in the making for the tiny, oil-rich nation starting from 2010 when Qatar won the bid to host the first-ever World Cup in the Middle East.
Since then, the Arab state has been transformed into an inter-connected metropolis boasting eight futuristic stadiums to host 32 teams, 64 matches, and over a million visitors.
And the country's infrastructure isn't the only thing that's received a facelift.
Once ranked 113th in the world, Qatar's national team has risen to 50th in the FIFA rankings.
In the lead-up to the World Cup, Qatar won its first-ever Asian Cup title in 2019 and made a semi-final appearance at the CONCACAF Gold Cup in 2021 as a guest nation.
Almoez Ali, who finished top scorer in both tournaments, will be Qatar's main man to watch at the World Cup.
With 39 goals in 76 appearances, Ali is currently third on the list of Qatar's all-time top goalscorers.
The Al-Duhail forward can break the record if he scores four goals at the World Cup.
