Switzerland overcame a spirited Cameroon as they edged past the Indomitable Lions 1-0 thanks to a second half strike from Breel Embolo, in their FIFA World Cup 2022 opening Group G encounter at the Al Janoub Stadium in Qatar, on Thursday.
Cameroon had the better share of chances in the first half but couldn't make them count as the Swiss side also failed to trouble Cameroon's goalkeeper, with the first half ending goalless.
Switzerland started the second half on the front foot and opened the scoring in the 48th minute after Xherdan Shaqiri's pass found an unmarked Breel Embolo in the middle of the six-yard box who smashed the ball in the back of the net.
Cameroon have now lost their last 8 games at the World Cup. Only Mexico (9) have ever lost more games in a row in the competition's history.
