FIFA World cup 2022 : The USA will be back at the FIFA World Cup 2022 after missing out in Russia four years ago. Fresh, fearless and hungry - the new-look Americans are ready to set Qatar alight. Brimming with young stars who ply their trade in Europe, it will be the first World Cup for most players.
Manager Gregg Berhalter's faith in youth paid off following 2018's qualifying failure, as the USMNT finished third in CONCACAF qualification, pipping Costa Rica on goal difference to book their ticket to Qatar. The young Americans also found time to beat bitter rivals Mexico twice to win the CONCACAF Nations League and the 2021 Gold Cup.
Hailed as "Captain America", Christian Pulisic turned heads after Chelsea paid Borussia Dortmund 64 million euros (US$73 million) for the winger when he was just 20 years old. That price tag made him the most expensive US football player ever. However, Pulisic has been lackluster in front of goal this season. The 24-year-old netted once in 17 matches for the Blues. Another attacking option is Borussia Dortmund's Reyna. The 19-year-old forward is one of Europe's most promising talents and has already become an anchor in Dortmund's attack despite his young age.
There will be huge expectations from USA, who are given a tough but manageable Group B with England, Wales and Iran.
The 16th-ranked Americans who have featured in 10 editions managed to get out of the group stage in three of their previous four editions, including a quarter-final finish in 2002.
The Americans have played 33 games, won 8 and lost 19.
