Barcelona footballer Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was attacked by a group of masked robbers at his house early on Monday.
The Spanish club issued a statement confirming the reports and announced the player and his wife were doing fine.
The local authorities informed the press that the Gabon international was beaten by the attackers, who were armed with guns and iron bars. He was also made to open a safe where the jewelry was kept. According to reports, at least four men entered the 33-year-old's house and escaped in a car after stealing the valuables.
It was not the first time a footballer's house was robbed in Spain. In the past, players such as Casemiro, Álvaro Morata, Gerard Piqué, Samuel Umtiti, Jordi Alba, and even former Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane, have been at the receiving end of such robberies.
Only two weeks back, Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski had a watch snatched from his wrist when he was greeting fans at the club's training centre.
