Former Paris Saint-Germain and Napoli star footballer Ezequiel Lavezzi was rushed to the hospital on Wednesday after reportedly being stabbed.
Reports in South America claimed that the ex-Argentina forward was taken to hospital in Uruguay.
One news agency suggested that he was involved in an argument following a party at his home; but another stated that the family has dismissed such talk and insisted he slipped off a ladder while trying to change a light bulb and suffered a fractured collarbone.
'It is unknown at the moment how the injury occurred, he was at a party,' the statement by the police said.
Capped 51 times by Argentina, Lavezzi also played for Hebei China Fortune and became one of the highest-paid players in world football at the time.
