The Indian football team experienced another setback in the AFC Asian Cup, succumbing to a 3-0 loss against Uzbekistan at the Ahmed bin Ali Stadium in Qatar. This defeat marked India's second consecutive loss in the tournament.
From the outset, Uzbekistan, ranked 68th globally, dominated the match. They quickly gained the upper hand with Abbosbek Fayzullaev scoring the opening goal in just the 4th minute. India's woes were compounded when Igor Sergeev found the net in the 18th minute, doubling Uzbekistan's lead.
India, desperately hoping for a turnaround before the break, were further demoralized by a third strike from Uzbekistan's left-back Sherzod Nasrullaev. This goal effectively dashed any hopes India had of staging a comeback and the match eventually finished without any more goals.
The defeat has left India languishing at the bottom of their group, burdened with a poor goal difference. Their prospects of advancing to the Round of 16 now appear grim. India face the challenge of needing a miraculous performance in their final group match against Syria and relying on other match outcomes to favour their advancement.
