Lionel Messi and his ex-Barcelona colleague Luis Suarez teamed up once again, this time for Inter Miami, but were unable to break through the resolute defence of El Salvador in a goalless draw in San Salvador on Friday night.
Messi, the celebrated Argentine forward, was on the field for the first 45 minutes and created the prime opportunity for Miami. His efforts, however, were twice denied by El Salvador's goalkeeper Mario Martinez towards the close of the first half.
In the second half, El Salvador nearly scored with Styven Vasquez's shot hitting the crossbar, yet both sides ultimately had to accept a stalemate.
