Lionel Messi scored his 9th league goal of the season for French club Paris Saint Germain against Montpellier and took his tally to an impressive 697 goals in the Top 5 European leagues.
The Argentine World Cup winner surpassed his long-time counterpart Cristiano Ronaldo who has 696 goals to his name. Messi broke the goal scoring record in 84 less games than the Portuguese as well.
With Cristiano Ronaldo's move to Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr last year, the record is looking to stay with the Argentine international in the near future unless Ronaldo decides to return to Europe.
