Manchester United remained in contact with Barcelona in a bid to buy the Dutch midfielder, Frenkie de Jong after their initial $74m offer for the Dutch superstar was rejected by Barcelona.
Manchester United's new manager Erik ten Hag and de Jong had earlier worked together for a year and a half at Ajax before Barcelona signed the 25-year-old from Ajax for $79.6mn in 2019 on a five-year contract.

Barcelona has valued Frankie de Jong at about $89m.
The 25-year-old midfielder has scored 13 goals from 140 appearances and helped Barcelona to win the Copa del Rey in 2021. In the last season, he made 46 appearances scoring four goals and five assists.
