Spain name Alejandro Balde as injured Jose Gaya's replacement

Barcelona defender Alejandro Balde has replaced injured left-back Jose Gaya in Spain's 26-member squad for the FIFA  World Cup 2022. 

The 19-year-old Balde who is now set to make his senior debut at the biggest football tournament was called after the Valencia defender sprained his ankle during training earlier this week.

The Spanish Football Association further informed that 27-year-old Gaya had to leave Qatar after the injury. Balde has had an impressive season at Camp Nou and he played for Spain's under-21 team in September.

Spain defeated Jordan 3-1 in a friendly on Thursday and their Qatar 2022 campaign will begin against Costa Rica on November 23rd in Group E.
