Inter Milan secured a victory in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie on Tuesday. Substitute Marko Arnautovic scored a late goal to help his side beat Atlético Madrid 1-0.
In the other game, PSV Eindhoven’s Luuk de Jong scored a second-half equalizer against Dortmund to seal a tie in the first leg of their last-16. The match was PSV’s first Champions League knockout tie in eight seasons.
Marko Arnautovic came off the bench to score for Inter in the 79th minute. Arnautovic replaced the injured Marcus Thuram at halftime and redeemed himself after missing a couple of early chances by scoring the winning goal.
Initial reports were that Thuram injured a muscle in his right thigh and Inter will be hoping to have the France forward back for the second leg in Madrid on March 13.
Luuk de Jong converted a penalty to cancel out a goal by his former teammate Donyell Malen.
The goal was a familiar sight for the PSV fans. Malen scored 50 times in 81 appearances for the Eindhoven club from 2018-21. The crowd at PSV Stadium gave Malen a warm ovation when he was substituted late in the match.
