With no titles in the last five years, Manchester United's horrid run continued as Atletico Madrid knocked the English club out of UEFA Champions League at Old Trafford on Tuesday night.
Atletico Madrid played their usual way as they defended brilliantly and were quick on counter-attack. While, United, despite their best efforts failed to produce enough quality goal-scoring opportunities.
Atletico created quite a few chances in the early minutes of play but failed to get the final touch as United's goalkeeper David de Gea made some superb saves. But the Spanish club was able to break the deadlock in the 41st minute when Renan Lodi converted a pass from Antoine Griezmann.
United tried to stage a comeback in the second half but failed to go past Atletico's defence as they lost the round of 16 on a 2-1 aggregate.
United now have to focus on their Premier League campaign where they are in a serious battle for top-four finish, in order to qualify for the UEFA Champions League next season.
