European football governing body UEFA has said that its ethics and disciplinary inspectors will look into allegations that Barcelona made payments to a former vice-president of Spain's referees' committee to gain favourable decisions.

The Catalan giants paid 8.4m euros to Dasnil 95 company over a number of years, but claim it was for information on background reports on referees.

Prosecutors in Spain though take a different view, with Barcelona public prosecutor's office opening up a lawsuit against the club.
