World champions Argentina arrived in Buenos Aires on Tuesday after winning the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and as expected, the national football team led by Lionel Messi received a rousing welcome from the airport itself.
It was non-other than 35-year-old Messi, who held the trophy when the team got off the plane and waved it to his countrymen. The Argentine side was escorted straight to an open-top bus for a parade.
The team’s highly-anticipated return continues several days of nonstop celebration across the country and among fans overseas.
In probably the wildest final in the tournament’s 92-year history, Argentina won its third World Cup title by beating France 4-2 in a penalty shootout after a 3-3 draw.
