Defending Champions France set up a mouth-watering finale with Argentina with a 2-0 win against Morocco in the second semi-final.
5 minutes is all it took for France to take the lead. While Kylian Mbappe’s twin strikes were blocked, the rebound from his second effort fell in the path of defender Theo Hernandez, who fired his side in front with a superb close-range strike.
Morocco clawed their way back into the game as the half progressed, ending the first 45 with a flurry of chances. In the second half, the African nation laid siege to France’s goal but somehow failed to find the right finish. Chances came one after the other but a goal eluded the Atlas Lions.
And it was game, set and match when substitute Randal Kolo Muani doubled the lead in the 79th minute after some impressive footwork from Mbappe in the box. France are now on the cusp of becoming the third team in history to successfully defend their World Cup title, but magical Messi and Argentina stand in their way.
For Morocco, they bow out but not before winning hearts, for they surely have been the team of the tournament.
