Gujarat Titans (GT) are gearing up to kick off their IPL 2025 campaign with a match against Punjab Kings at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad this Tuesday.
After clinching the IPL title in 2022 and finishing as runners-up in 2023, the Titans experienced a slump, ending the 2024 season in seventh place.
Now, under the leadership of captain Shubman Gill, they aim to launch their latest campaign with a victory. Facing them are the unpredictable Punjab Kings, who promise to deliver a challenging encounter.
Parthiv Patel, GT's assistant coach, expressed confidence in the team's ability to handle the threat posed by the Punjab Kings, led by Shreyas Iyer and coached by Ricky Ponting. "We believe in simplicity, understanding the conditions, and responding to the situation.
That will be our approach," Patel shared in response to a query from NDTV during a media interaction. Recognizing Punjab's strength on paper and their new leadership dynamics, Patel emphasized the importance of executing GT's strategies effectively.
Patel highlighted the meticulous preparation undertaken by the team. "We've conducted extensive preparations, including two five-day training camps in Surat, which offered excellent facilities.
The players have put in the work, particularly focusing on batting practice," he noted. The team then moved to Ahmedabad, where they have been training since March 10 and have played practice matches. "We've maintained a low profile on social media, but we’re ready and well-prepared for the IPL," Patel affirmed.
In strategic moves during the mega auction, GT bolstered their squad by signing Jos Buttler, Mohammed Siraj, and Kagiso Rabada. They also retained key players like Shubman Gill, Rashid Khan, Sai Sudharsan, Shahrukh Khan, and Rahul Tewatia, ensuring a balanced mix of talent and experience.
As the IPL 2025 journey begins, all eyes will be on the Titans to see if they can reclaim their former glory and outmaneuver the ever-unpredictable Punjab Kings.
