Angelo Mathews is not ready to let go of his controversial 'timed out' dismissal against Bangladesh in the Cricket World Cup.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) shared a link to his press conference on social media platform X and the Sri Lankan all-rounder provided proof that he was wrongly given out.
'4th umpire is wrong here! Video evidence shows I still had 5 more seconds even after the helmet gave away! Can the 4th umpire rectify this, please? I mean safety is paramount as I just couldn’t face the bowler without a helmet.'
Mathews even shared two pictures depicting that there were 5 seconds left from the time the catch was taken and the time the helmet strap came off.
The incoming batter is required to take strike within 2 minutes after the fall of a wicket in ODIs, a limit Mathews exceeded.
The timer went over 2 minutes and Mathews didn't face his first ball despite being at the crease as the strap of his helmet broke.
Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan appealed to the on-field umpire, who had to send Mathews back as per rules.
