Pakistan's national selector Inzamam-ul-Haq announced the ODI World Cup squad on September 22 and a funny moment was captured during the 30-minute long press conference.
During the Q&A session, a journalist drew comparisons between India's star spinner Kuldeep Yadav and Pakistan's world cup options Mohammad Nawaz and Shadab Khan.
Yadav had a fantastic run at the Asia Cup but it was a poor show for the two premier Pakistan spinners.
Responding to the scribe in signature Inzy style, the 53-year-old said, 'You have come up with some good stats on both bowlers but let me say that I cannot select Kuldeep Yadav…for me that’s an issue as he is from another team.'
His answer left the room in splits as the chief selector also provided justification behind his choices in Shadab and Nawaz.
'We have selected Shadab and Nawaz because we wanted continuity. The World Cup squad is planned for years ahead, and cannot be changed abruptly. Shadab and Nawaz have been doing very well for Pakistan for the past two years,' Inzamam said adding that even if they haven't been doing well of late, the management has confidence in them to bounce back.
