It seems that Team India will have to be without the services of Shubman Gill in their 2nd game of the ODI World Cup 2023 as he has still not fully recovered from dengue.
According to a report in PTI, the opening batter is recovering well and has travelled with the team to Delhi, but is unlikely to participate in the game against Afghanistan in Delhi on Wednesday.
Gill had missed India's opening game against Australia as well and his replacement Ishan Kishan was out for a duck in that match.
The team management waited till match day to assess Gill's recovery but he was eventually ruled out of Sunday's game. Team India is likely to do the same this time as well.
Physical recovery of dengue patients vary and it normally takes around 7-10 days to be up and match ready.
Gill is India's most prolific batter in ODIs and is the highest run-getter in the format in 2023. He has smashed 1230 runs at an average of over 72, including 5 hundreds and as many half-centuries. Gills strike rate of over 105 is also impressive.
