Even as South Africa thumped 5-time champions Australia by a massive 134-run margin in the World Cup on Thursday, there was controversy over the dismissals of two Aussie batters during the run-chase.
Marcus Stoinis was left shocked by his dismissal when he gloved a Kagiso Rabada delivery which was caught by Quinton de Kock. After the on-field umpire gave it not out, there was a review where the ball appeared to have come off Stoinis' glove. However, Stoinis' glove wasn't in contact with the bat, but the third umpire failed to spot it and gave it out, which left the Aussies stunned.
Steve Smith also fell prey to a controversial dismissal earlier when a Rabada delivery hit him on the pads which to the naked eye seemed like missing the leg stump. However, on review, Smith was shocked to see the ball hitting the leg stump and was sent back to the pavilion in disbelief. The review didn't even show the ball's trajectory and straightaway showed the ball hitting the stumps which raised many eyebrows.
The defeat meant that the Kangaroos are yet to register a win in the quadrennial tournament after 2 defeats from as many games.
