Records were made and records were broken in the 8th match of ODI World Cup 2023 that Pakistan eventually won, beating Sri Lanka by 6 wickets in Hyderabad.

After winning the toss, Sri Lanka opted to bat first. The Dasun Shanaka-led side set a 345-run target on the back of scintillating performances by Kusal Mendis and Sadeera Samarawickrama. The ferocious pace attack of Pakistan was torn apart as Mendis slammed a 77-ball 122. To add to the misery, Samarawickrama also got 108 off 89 balls at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. Hassan Ali was the pick of the bowlers for Pakistan as he picked 4 wickets.

While it seemed like a daunting task, after initial hiccups, Pakistan completed the biggest run chase in the history of the World Cup with ease. For the Men in Green, 23-year-old Abdullah Shafique got 113 runs and Mohammad Rizwan played an unbeaten innings of 131 as the duo helped the team register their 2nd successive win of the tournament.
