Australia quickly added to their overnight total of 255/4 as Cameron Green raced to his maiden Test hundred.
Usman Khawaja too scored 180 as the duo put together a 208-run stand.
Ravichandran Ashwin then inspired a spirited fightback as Australia lost 4 quick wickets before Nathan Lyon and Todd Murphy stitched a 71-run stand.
Ashwin then picked up 2 more and ended with 6 wickets as Australia was bowled out for 480.
In reply, Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill made sure India had no hiccup and comfortably played out 10 overs.
