It was the first time in 7 years that Bangladesh took on India in an ODI at home and it was worth the wait for the Bangla Tigers. Mehidy Hasan stole India's thunder as Bangladesh snatched a 1-wicket victory from the jaws of defeat in the 1st ODI to go 1-0 up in the 3-match series.
Put into bat, India was bowled out for a below par 186. KL Rahul was the only batter who stood amidst the ruins with a gritty 73 but Shakib Al Hassan's 5-wicket haul broke India's back.
Indian bowlers however, made sure it wasn't a cakewalk as the hosts found themselves wanting at 136/9. It seemed as if India would close the game with a big margin but Mehidy Hasan had other plans.
He smashed an unbeaten 38 and stitched together a 51-run stand with Mustafizur Rahman. Bangladesh's highest 10th wicket partnership in ODIs vs India saw the Bangla Tigers miraculously cross the finish line with 24 balls to spare.
India will now shift focus to the 2nd ODI in Chattogram as that game on Saturday will be a do or die affair.
